This much is certain: It’s been a bad week for the San Francisco 49ers.
As we noted last Thursday, star quarterback Colin Kaepernick is maybe, kinda-sorta being investigated for something in the realm of sexual assault down in Miami. TMZ broke the story (of course) with a damning blog post, and although details have emerged since that time that make the story sound perhaps less so (it’s now proper, apparently, to refer to it as a “suspicious incident”), it’s still a bad look for a guy that’s supposed to be the face of the franchise.
And now come the bad headlines for star pass rusher Aldon Smith.
According to a TMZ post from Sunday afternoon (yep …):
Law enforcement says the drama began at the security gate — when he was randomly selected for a secondary screening.
Cops say Smith became “belligerent and uncooperative with the process and with the TSA agent making a comment indicating that he was in possession of a bomb before proceeding toward the gate area.”
TMZ Sports obtained video showing Smith in handcuffs … telling police he did nothing wrong. He also says they’re going to be “embarrassed.”
Cops say Smith was uncooperative during the arrest. He was eventually transported to a nearby LAPD station to be booked.
As TMZ tells it, Smith, according to “multiple law enforcement sources, “appeared to be drunk at the time of his arrest. He was later released after posting $20,000 bail.
The 49ers, meanwhile, issued the obligatory statement, with General Manager Trent Baalke saying: “We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith. As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment.”
