Soccer star Hope Solo made headlines again over the weekend, and they weren’t good ones. The former UW and current US women’s national team goaltender stands accused of domestic violence, stemming from an incident early Sunday morning in which she allegedly roughed up her sister and 17-year-old nephew.
Making her first court appearance in the case Monday, Solo pleaded not-guilty and was released without bail. According to the Associated Press, Solo was also ordered to avoid alcohol and her alleged victims – both of which are probably good ideas.
KING 5’s Chris Daniels followed today’s court proceeding and tweeted most of the juicy details. Apparently, authorities claim there was a broomstick and a BB gun involved. And coming as a surprise to absolutely no one at this point, Daniels notes that “Court docs … claim Hope Solo punched her half sister in the face several times, and drank ‘a lot’ of wine night of incident.”
Solo’s next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 11.
