Seattle Mist coach Chris Michaelson has something very important he wants you to know about his lingerie football team: These girls are athletes, not models.”The beautiful women initially draw [the crowds], but the great play will keep them,” he says as several of the women pose in bras and panties behind him.The Mist, who start their second season Friday, were on full display in Wednesday’s media preview at the creatively-named Sport Restaurant and Bar. They bared their bodies, their teeth, and their souls for a crowd of reporters, 100 percent of whom were male (except for your Weekly correspondent).Though Michaelson insists football is the Mist’s top priority, some of the players seem like they could use a reminder on the customs of the game. “Audibilize something!” a member of the team management shouts as he directs several women to get in a three-point stance.”Two, three, red, blue–is that a call?” one of the women asks. They were on firmer ground when a photographer suggested the coaches get in the picture.”We’ll hold you!” a player says. Mass giggling.Last year’s team went 3-1 and did not make it to the Lingerie Football League playoffs, a result Michaelson says disappointed him. But with the Mist’s renewed focus on athleticism, he says, victory is in the offing.”I believe this year’s girls are gonna take it all the way,” he says.See a slideshow of the 2010 team here.
