On my walk home along Western Avenue, just past the Sculpture Park, there was a horrible crunch and a woman’s cry. I turned to see a cyclist down, and a dark pickup with one of those diamond-shaped tops racing past. Everyone started yelling at the driver, only to watch him speed up and slip through the yellow light at Denny and out of sight.Always amazes me what sort of destruction Assholes In Cars can wreak on the world with total impunity–unless they happen to be a) drunk as Scott Noble, and b) caught. Her life’s changed forever. He’s home enjoying a beer.Friday update: Mark D. Fefer is out of the office today, so I (Brian Miller) contacted the Seattle Police Department and learned a little more about the incident…According to SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson, “It was a hit-and-run” that occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Bay St. and Western Ave. “The pickup truck left northbound on Western. The cyclist had some injuries and was treated by the Seattle Fire Department. The cyclist had an injured arm.”Jamieson said the cyclist was able to report accident details to the police for their incident report, which means she was conscious and lucid. Her name was not released. The pickup truck is described as black with a canopy, with unidentified plates (meaning not necessarily from Washington State.) “We did a pretty extensive search,” says Jamieson. So far, nothing has been reported.Witnesses to the incident, or those who might know the truck, can call the SPD non-emergency line: 625.5011.–Brian Miller (for Mark D. Fefer)
