“There are a lot of issues between taxis, for-hire cars, and limos. I’m hoping they do something about it.” —Bashi Takar, 36, West Seattle
On Monday, as Kshama Sawant prepared to take the oath of office to become the newest member of the Seattle City Council, I went around town and asked Seattleites what they expect from their new council. See their answers (and their mugs) here.
“As somebody who has never lived here and is a first-time visitor, I’d like to see improved public-transportation maps, for them to deal with the homeless, and reinvigorate that old Seattle grunge sound.” —Cody Badaracca, 27, Steamboat, Colo.
“I don’t have any hopes for the Seattle City Council. I expect them to deal with the $15-an-hour minimum wage, which doesn’t affect me but it’ll be a big deal.” —Joe Berentsen, 63, Wedgewood
“My biggest hope is that they can strike a balance between raising the minimum wage and not hurting small businesses.” —Joe Veyera, 20, North Seattle
“I would hope that they could start finalizing a plan that would bring the SoDo Arena.” —Thuc Nhi Nguyen, 21, North Seattle
