Of course you do – because it just happened.

Yes, despite an 0 for 12 weekend at the plate in Chicago, Mariners third basement Kyle Seager was today named to the American League All-Star team – an injury replacement, but an All Star nonetheless. Seager will replace Toronto third basemen Edwin Encarnacion, American League All-Star team manager John Farrell said today.

As SportspressNW writes:

The left-handed hitting Seager, 26, in his fourth major league season, will be making his first All-Star appearance. The third baseman joins RHP Felix Hernandez and second baseman Robinson Cano as Seattle’s representatives in the game. This marks the first time since 2011, when Hernandez, Michael Pineda and Brandon League made the team, that Seattle has featured three All-Stars.

Seager, a University of North Carolina product, is batting .274 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs, 21 doubles and a .483 slugging percentage. Seager has been the Mariners’ MVP, selected by the Seattle chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, after each of the past two seasons.

Seager, of course, was drafted in the third round of the 2009 draft … two rounds after Dustin Ackley.
