Not all horseshoes are lucky, as it turns out.

Amid reports of more than 20 swimmers afflicted with diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps over the weekend, Horseshoe Lake County Park in Port Orchard has been temporarily closed down. While the heat was likely what park-goers were trying to escape, many seem to have run into another – potentially more serious – problem.

According to Q13 FOX, anyone who visited Horshoe Lake between Thursday, July 10 and Sunday, July 13 may have been exposed to the illness.

As Q13 Fox reports:

More than 20 people reported serious flu symptoms over the weekend, 24-48 hours after swimming at Horseshoe Lake County Park. Officials closed the lake as a precautionary measure while they investigate the illness.

The park will remain closed until the water has been tested and the park bathrooms have been thoroughly cleaned – which is probably a very good idea, given the circumstances.

Though the symptoms do not appear to be long lasting, those who have been affected are urged to call the The Kitsap Public Health District to report the illness.

UPDATE:

Things have only gotten shittier in Port Orchard.

According to Q13: “Initially some 80 people had reported illnesses after swimming at Horseshoe Lake County Park, now Kitsap County Public Health says more than 200 people have reported being sickened.”
