James Landis is proof that they do domestic disputes differently out in the country. This weekend cops were called out to Landis’ home in tiny Harvillah near the Okanagon National Forest after police learned the 61-year-old had tried to run over his wife with a tractor.Deputies first arrived at a neighbor’s house on Saturday evening. There they found Landis’ wife laid up and in hiding. She had some leg injuries on account of being run over with a tractor of thus far indeterminate size. But when they realized she wasn’t going to die, they went back to her house to gather up her husband. But Landis wasn’t about to go peacefully. When the cops pulled up he greeted them with several gunshots fired at their cars. When they pulled out of his driveway to get out of harms way, Landis chased them down to the street with a pistol and a rifle, before being taken down with a shot in the hip by an officer who’d flanked him through a neighbor’s yard.Landis is now recovering from his gunshot wound in a Wenatchee hospital. After he’s released he’ll be returned to Okanogan, where he’ll face attempted murder charges. His wife is also hospitalized. And, if she’s smart, also contemplating a legal separation.
