Initiative 502 made possession of small quantities of marijuana legal for those 21 and older. But there was nothing in 502’s rules and regulations that allowed for six pounds of weed wrapped in plastic wrap and coated in petroleum jelly – which police say is exactly what hotel staff discovered sitting outside an unoccupied room at the Four Seasons yesterday.
According to the Seattle Police Department:
The special teams from police and fire were called to the Four Seasons Hotel at 1st Avenue and Union Street just after 12:45 PM after staff found a lumpy package sealed in plastic wrap that was left outside of a vacant hotel room.
Hotel employees, concerned by the package’s odd shape and unclear recipient, called police and fire officials, who opened the package and found six pounds of marijuana, covered several layers of packaging and petroleum jelly.
As you’d expect, police indicate that the pot was seized and will be slated for destruction. While it’s legal for an adult to possess up to an ounce of weed in Washington, it’s still illegal to have six pounds (and still gross to have six pounds smeared in vaseline).
Meanwhile, authorities assure us that, “Police do not believe the package was delivered by hotel room service.”
