Well this might make your civic heart swell a little.
Earlier this week we wrote about a now infamous video making the rounds that showed 12 cars making illegal lefts turns in the span of seven minutes on the newly installed 2nd Ave protected bike lane. The video especially stung given the death of Sher Kung, a cyclist who died just a week and a half before the lanes opened due to a truck’s left turn that struck and killed her. The new lane was built to prevent this kind of thing from happening, but as the video showed, that wasn’t working very well, whether due to negligence or just sheer confusion about the lane’s new bike specific/car specific traffic lights.
Well, Seattle Department of Transportation saw the video too, and they posted about it on the Seattle Reddit page:
And voila—a rare, heartwarming case of effective government. Now that that’s taken care of, we can all stop arguing about traffic lights and be happy and look up at those other confusing, crazy lights (in the sky) tonight.
