If Seattle taxi driver Bashi S. Ahmed didn’t beat his 3-year-old stepdaughter profusely, then skip town, he’d better have the world’s greatest excuse. He’s been gone since Oct. 27, and police say it’s because he’s now facing charges of second-degree assault of a child. Police say he beat the little girl enough to leave her with tears in her liver and pancreas, bruises on her back, chest, forehead and lungs, and kidneys that nearly failed because of the injuries. The mother says the child had complained before that Ahmed beat her, but until then she hadn’t seen any proof.Ahmed apparently worked nights, driving his cab until late and watching the kid during the day. When the mom found her daughter covered in bruises and took her to the emergency room, Ahmed allegedly said that he “was not going to come back to the residence, that … (she) wasn’t going to put him in jail.”Not exactly a full-throated denial. But no less damning than slipping off to the Grand Canyon State in a rush. A bail of $150,000 has been set as police try and dig him out from his hole.
