He told Seattle Police he found them. Authorities, however, remain skeptical.

According to the SPD Blotter blog, police arrested a 54-year-old man this morning in the International District who’s suspected of breaking into a Pioneer Square convenience store on Oct. 28 and making off with “dozens of packs of cigarettes.” After spotting the man on the street, police say they “… contacted the man, learned he had an unrelated warrant and arrested him. After searching the man’s backpack, [police] found 137 packs of cigarettes, which the suspect claimed he had ‘found.’”

Of course, 137 is probably a lot more than “dozens.” While Seattle Police aren’t saying there’s a definite connection, the Blotter blog does note that there have been at least two other cigarette robberies recently. According to police: “Sometime late Sunday evening or early Monday morning, a burglar pried out the security bars and window of a convenience store in the 2700 block of Airport Way S and made off with 15 boxes of cigarettes, worth about $1,000. … Two days earlier, someone also broke into a Seward Park convenience store and took cigarettes and Rockstar energy drinks.”

According to SPD’s Mark Jamieson, police will be looking into a connection between the robberies.
