OLD 97s may have roots in country music, but their current style of alternative rock/pop has drawn in a group of faithful fans and followers. The band’s Texas roots are apparent throughout their lyrics and twangy sounds, but do not inherently push towards a distinct country sound. On the contrary, OLD 97s songs feature rock distortions on the guitar and catchy drum lines. Their upbeat tone and rockin’ attitudes are reminiscent of Tom Petty, but are truly unique to the band.
