Despite being approved by voters in 2012, the proposed plan to raze the King County Juvenile Detention Facility and replace it with a $210 million new facility still has no shortage of opponents. A large group of them amassed in downtown Seattle Friday morning to make sure members of the King County Council had not forgotten.

About 150 activists from groups including the Alliance for a Just Society and Youth Undoing Institutionalization Racism traveled to King County headquarters to rally in protest of the project. The group had earlier in the day sent representatives to meet with members of the Council in hopes of addressing their concerns – chief among them that the Council will in the fall approve a plan to spend tax dollars on a brand new facility at a time when youth and adult crime stats are on the wane.
