Dating is hard. Finding a romantic match can be challenging. And for single dudes in Seattle, it can – apparently – be down right frustrating.

Is Amazon to blame? That’s the contention of local tech blogger Jeff Reifman, who has a bunch of charts and graphs to back him up.

Posting the ingeniously titled “You’ve got Male: Amazon’s Growth Impacting Seattle Dating Scene” today via his blog, Reifman’s research suggests that Amazon’s massive recent growth, coupled with its massive gender discrepancy (the company is 75 percent male, according to Payscale.com) has created an environment in Seattle where it’s really difficult for guys like Reifman (and plenty of others) to win the attention of the ladies.

As Reifman tells it:

Over the past two years, I’ve personally found dating in Seattle has become increasingly difficult. It’s less common to meet single women in person and online dating is more difficult. It’s not that I can’t get dates but it’s harder to find women that are a good match for me. Online, it’s been harder to catch women’s attention, harder to get them to schedule a date and they cancel dates more frequently. When we do meet in person, it’s been harder to capture their interest and nearly impossible to find one interested in a relationship. The women here seem more distracted than ever before and at times, I’ve felt like a number to them. Turns out, the statistics back up my qualitative experience.

According to Reifman’s tabulations, by the end of the year there will be 134 single men in Seattle for every 100 single women … a trend that’s going to make it increasingly difficult for guys like him to find love.

Of course, for straight single ladies in Seattle, it will probably have the opposite effect.
