And lucky for us, along with inviting “one of the country’s most respected political economists,” that’s exactly what Town Hall Seattle has on tap tomorrow evening when Obama and Romney get down to business in Denver.With the debate scheduled to start at 6 p.m., Town Hall Seattle will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. and invite all comers to mosey on in for free (until 6:30 p.m., when the usual $5 Town Hall cover charge will kick in) for an evening of political dialogue, tasty, cheap eats, and wisdom from Dr. Gar Alperovitz, a Professor of Political Economy at the University of Maryland. Happy hour prices on food and drink will reportedly be in effect until 6:30 p.m. – with vegetarian options offered by Dante’s Dogs, and packed brown-bag dinners also welcomed.According to a Town Hall Seattle press release:The topic of the debate is domestic policy, and the state of the nation’s economy will feature prominently. Following the debate, at 7:30 pm, Town Hall will host a special talk by Dr. Gar Alperovitz, a Professor of Political Economy at the University of Maryland. Dr. Alperovitz is a historian, political economist, activist, writer, and a former Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University; Harvard’s Institute of Politics. A Guest Scholar at the Brookings Institution. Dr. Alperovitz offers what Noam Chomsky calls “concrete and feasible” solutions to address our economic challenges and revitalize our democracy. Dr. Alperovitz will be available after the talk to take questions from the audience.This is a brilliant idea for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact polls show Seattle voters prefer Dante’s Dogs two-to-one over Mitt Romney’s domestic policy.
