Charles Apple’s blog on the American Copy Editors Society website keeps track

Charles Apple’s blog on the American Copy Editors Society website keeps track of, among other things, newspaper typos and assorted screwups, such as the one to the right from the Seattle Times – “I’m sure somebody in Seattle is unharry about this one!” he says. But the Times is in good company on Apple’s offender list, joining the New York Times,

Washington Post, and Time magazine, among many. Apple, a graphics editor, also collects the gaffes by TV stations – such as this classic (left) by WMAQ, Chicago’s NBC outlet. The polar bear cub’s name is Knut – or was. The spelling-impaired graphic went on the air with a story on the five-year-old’s death last year at the Berlin Zoo. As Apple puts it: “Yikes!” We gathered up a few others from his collection – all of which you can see here.
