At 6:30 AM yesterday, the masked man above (see also video here) held up a Ballard gas station at 15th Ave NW and NW 58th st. In so doing, he got in an argument with the clerk whom he shot, and who later died at Harborview Medical Center. After leaving the store, the suspect discarded his clothing in a plastic bag in a Taco Bell parking lot on 15th. A couple apparently walked into the gas station as the robbery was in process and, upon realizing what was going on, promptly left. Police are hoping they’ll come forward to provide more information on what they saw. This is the fourth homicide in the past week–the other three being the stabbing of Teresa Butz in South Park, the shooting of Aaron Sullivan in Leschi, and the shooting of an unidentified homeless man in “The Jungle” beneath I-5. The suspect in Butz’s case was identified and arrested Friday. Isaiah M.K. Kalebu has a long history of mental illness and violent behavior. He faces trial next month for threatening to kill his mother (after she confronted him about his refusal to take his bipolar medication) and is considered a suspect in a University Place arson that killed his Aunt and her tenant.Police are asking that those with tips call 911 immediately or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or text TIP486 with your information to CRIMES (274637).
