A man was shot late this morning at Union Gospel Mission.

Several eye witnesses outside the mission on Second Avenue Extension told Seattle Weekly the man was shot in the chapel of the mission while waiting for lunch.

A man was seen being taken into custody outside the mission. A police spokesman told KIRO TV that the victim was in his 40s and shot twice. According to Jennifer Sullivan of the Seattle Times, the suspect is 82. Originally it had been reported that the suspected shooter was in his 70s. Sullivan also reports that today’s lunch at the Union Gospel Mission was catered by El Gaucho.

The Seattle Fire Department told the Seattle Times that the victim has been taken to Harborview in critical condition.
