A man threatening to kill officers from the second story window of an apartment complex was fatally shot this morning by SPD.
According to the Blotter report, police responded to a shots fired call around 4 a.m. this morning at 23rd Ave E and E John St.
“When they arrived they were met by a visibly upset woman who told them that the shooting suspect was armed with a rifle in a second floor hallway. The suspect had threatened to kill her.”
A Police quickly spotted the suspect holding a rifle in the window, and ordered him to drop the weapon and come out.
The suspect then “threatened to kill the officers and then attempted to make good on that threat by firing a shot at them. The shot missed. One of the officers returned fire and the suspect fell out of sight.”
After barricading the streets and getting apartment residents safely sheltered, a SWAT team entered the building and found the man dead. CPR and medics were unsuccessful at reviving the suspect. Nobody else was hurt.
The man’s motives, relation to the woman, and identity remain unknown. The police investigation into the case is still underway.
