The Beats Man (photo by Rabid Child Images)The Pleasureboaters break-up this year was very unfortunate, considering they were one of the most promising young punk bands to come out the area in ages. Although the band’s former frontman Rickly Claudon hightailed it out of town, his bandmates Eric and Tim stayed behind and they aren’t just sitting around licking their wounds. Before the Pleasureboaters took shape initially, Eric Baldwin and Tim Cady had a project called “The Beats, Man”, which they have now resurrected. They’ve been playing shows around town here and there (the next is scheduled for February 28 at the Blue Moon), and word on the street is that it’s damn impressive, art-damaged, beats-driven dance punk. One of the things I always really liked about those boys was their open-mindedness to different genres and their seemingly insatiable curiosity to learn more whenever they could. Combine that with their natural talents, and you have an act worth keep an ear out for in 2009.
