So sweet, London-based mask-wearer/multi-instrumentalist Shawn Lee and Los Angeles musician/vocalist AM are streaming their new collaborative album for free over on AOL’s music site.
After one listen, I’m happy to report that it sounds damn good. To give you an idea what you’re getting yourself into, there’s an Ozark Mountain Daredevils cover (“Jackie Blue”) mixed into the track list, and it fits quite perfectly; the whole album has a very ’70s feel to it. It’s lounge-y funk fit for a retro movie soundtrack, or a strut around Greenlake while you check out the Betties/hunks. It’s not all fluff though, this thing’s got layers (you can see the process behind the first single “Dark Into Light”). I would recommend catching these guys at the Sunset next Tuesday if you’ve got $8, or on your radio for free when they do a KEXP in-studio the same day if you don’t.
