Seems everyone ’round these here parts been talkin’ about the Jealous Girlfriends,

Seems everyone ’round these here parts been talkin’ about the Jealous Girlfriends, a bluesy rock band fronted by brunette siren Holly Miranda, with fellow vocalist and guitarist Josh Abbot, drummer Mike Fadem and keyboardist Alex Lipsen. Abbot was the band’s original drummer, but I think you’ll agree that he’s quite indispensable on the gee-tar. Plus, this way you get a better look at his luscious, curly blonde metal-band locks. Here, see for yourself: As you can see, I went down to High Dive to check things out for myself, after listening to an unusually polished sophisticated debut record from this Brooklyn-based band, and I must say: they won’t be playing smallish venues like High Dive for long. The place was close to, if not completely, sold out by the time they came on. And don’t even talk to me about Sea Wolf– everyone loves that Alex Church guy, and I’ve gotta jump right on that bandwagon. Knock me if you like, but Irving’s got nothing on the Wolf of the Sea.I made it to High Dive just in time for the opening band, Joy Wants Eternity, an instrumental, heavy-shoegazer sort of band involving a Rhodes and a guitar played with a bow. Interesting stuff. And they’re having a CD release show on June 18th at King Cobra (that’d be this Wednesday), so give ’em a listen if that’s yer thing. After their set, I went outside and proceeded to bum a smoke from Nada Surf bassist Daniel Lorca. I offered him a dollar, but he declined. Then I realized who he was, got awkward, and he left, perhaps to hang out with the Jealous Girlfriends before their performance. I’d like to thank the sweet brunette who hugged me and let me encroach on her space to take these photos, as well as the baseball cap-wearing guy who helped me balance on a stack of chairs to regale you with the following photos of the Jealous Girlfriends without snapping my neck.Mike the drummer keeping it real in the back:
