Seattle vocalist Felicia Loud is about to go back in time. The Central District resident and current vocalist for hip-hop group Black Stax is starting a month long residency this weekend where she’ll be portraying the late blues and jazz singer, Billie Holiday. That’s an incredible task to take on but I can’t think of any other urban soul singer locally that could pull it off besides her. Just two weeks ago, I watched Loud perform some of her solo songs during the Live at Hidmo series and she’s honestly got the ability to make listeners close their eyes and mentally time transport while she sings. That’s going to come in handy over the next month as she’s scheduled to perform a limited run of 14 performance as part of the renowned play, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill running from Sept 11– October 12. It’s all apart of a three year series that the Strawberry Theatre Workshop is doing on the life of Billie Holiday. If you’re a fan of either singer, this is most likely something you don’t want to miss. All of the performances take place at the Erickson Theatre off Broadway, and tickets are $25 general admission, and $10 for seniors and students.
