Renee McMahonA riot almost broke out during M83’s last stop at KeyArena (Bumbershoot). See what transpires when they return for Deck the Hall Ball.1. Tickets to See The End’s Deck the Hall Ball, Dec. 4, KeyArena: Not surprisingly, this show is sold out. AND it’s three weeks before Christmas. Which means if you can procure a pair of tickets for the one you love (who also loves The Killers, M83, Metric, The Lumineers, etc.), you are going to be setting the stage for an historic holiday season. Holiday-themed presents are always better (and less dated) in advance, and they give the holidays a longer shelf life. OK, but down to the nitty gritty of getting tickets to this sold-out show. First: Check Ticketmaster every morning. More tickets will be (quietly) released as we get closer to the show. Second: Check every hour the day of the show. Third: Go to the show and get tickets at the door (it sometimes happens) or from scalpers (it won’t be as bad as you think, there are LOTS of seats in KeyArena). Good luck!2. The Beatles Stereo Vinyl Box Set: There are several ways you can go about getting all 14 Beatles LPs. If you have the scratch ($300-plus), picking up this newly-released box set of Sgt. Pepper, Rubber Soul, etc., on thick, fresh vinyl is a good way to go. Even if your loved one is a longtime Beatles fan, they may never have had every record at the same time (I can’t be the only one plagued by this trend). If your budget is somewhat limited, that’s aright. You can usually find just about every Fab Four release in the REALLY CHEAP used vinyl bins at Everyday Music on Capitol Hill. Yeah, the copies will be … a bit worn, but they’ll average about $7 each. You’ll also score some points for crate-digging. 3. Beck Hansen, Song Reader (out Dec. 7 via McSweeny’s): Beck’s new “album” isn’t really an album at all, it’s a BOOK OF SHEET MUSIC! Which sounds kinda pretentious, I know. But it’s actually pretty fantastic. And think about this: Would you rather sit around the piano this Christmas belting out the same old standards, or rallying the family band is one of the first-ever performances of a Beck original? Give this to the musician in your family and watch as it keeps on giving as you all learn the tunes. 4. Holidays Rule, Starbucks Compilation CD: No Reverb recommendation would be complete without a nod or two toward the big mermaid in SoDo. This is another standup mix that features The Shins (“Wonderful Christmastime”), Paul McCartney (“Christmas Song”), and Rufus Wainwright (“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”). Pay special attention to Seattle’s own The Head and the Heart performing “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve,” which was recorded during our big heatwave last summer. Again, this is definitely a pre-Christmas gift. Give it to someone before the 25th so they can enjoy the songs for more than a day. 5. Tickets to Sasquatch! We have no idea who’s playing the big ole’ shindig at the Gorge, going down May 24 to 27 (but last year’s lineup of Beck, Jack White, Girl Talk, etc. should give you an idea of the vibe). We do know a few things: 1. This festival is going to sell out. 2. There is someone on your list who’s going to freak when you give them tickets for Christmas. 3. Grandmas, this one is better than cash, since it can only be enjoyed and CANNOT be used to pay down debt. Tickets are on sale now for $300 (includes camping). Yes, the price will go up in the spring.
