On Saturday, Chivefest made its debut appearance in Seattle. A fence encircled a small portion of the Seattle Center, including the fountain, greenspace, and Fisher Pavilion to house the single day of music and frivolity going on inside. Put on by the popular TheChive.com website, the festival was geared mainly toward its niche demographic: Bros. Guys who like to party, see half-naked women in public, play drunken party games (like beerpong), and enjoy hearing live music while doing all those things. This was never more obvious than in the line that extended down the street, filled as it was with revelers waiting for the gates, often bursting into cheers with fists raised in the air. These people were pumped.

As for the music, Steel Panther and Girl Talk drew the biggest and most active crowds. The popularity of those performances might have been a result of the day’s heat finally relenting, and they were pretty damn fun to watch.

Things observed at Chivefest:-High fives… so many high fives-Cheeky pants-Life-sized games of Jenga and Operation-Shirt-less dudes baking in the sun-Flamingo cup holders-KCCO shirts everywhere (the mantra of “Chivers” is “Keep Calm and Chive On”)-Beer, beer, beer (The Chive teamed up with Red Hook for a couple special brews)-Frat-style paddling with a big wooden paddle (see @SeattleWeekly instagram)-Climbing of the Seattle Center fountain, then face-planting while attempting to get back down-Fist pumping, rock horns, and cheering (both during music performances and on many a whim)
