Over the weekend, DJ Riz played his final set at Rebar, the club where he’d spun dance and electronic music faithfully for the past 20 years. Riz, who also DJs house music on KEXP, says he’ll continue that post, but figured it was time to give up the club gig. He also recently got married to his partner Rob (pictured on the right) and didn’t seem the least bit sad about moving on. He’s got one of the best ears for dance music in the city and on Friday night, he played three solid set of house, breaks, afrobeat, and soul. As the house lights went up and it was time for him to close, nobody wanted him and folks crowded around the DJ booth applauding him for doing such a good job over the years. You could tell that, like most DJs, he didn’t wan the focus to be on him, so he just turned off the music, and that was that.
