Only when the stars align and the heavens agree does such a mature sound comes from such a young trio of players.Yet the 2008 Sound Off! winner, Port Townsend’s New Faces, have achieved a level of polished mastery that is well beyond the crash of cymbals, off-kilter guitar rhythms and tone-deaf vocals that many garage bands of their age group display. It’s hard to believe that such a low baritone can come from such a young individual, but lead vocalist Nico Janssen’s deep voice seems to reference the style of Justin Warfield from She Wants Revenge and shadows New Faces’ pop-friendly tunes with a twinge of darkness. Two Years, their debut album, is unleashing itself upon the Northwest today chock full of radio-ready hits such as track four, Ms. Kiss Kiss Bang, track one, Impulse, and track ten My Alarm. With a summer full of straight performing rather than simple studio practice, New Faces have readied themselves for the “big time” that they will surely experience as soon as the masses have had their first taste of this dynamic group. Their next scheduled Seattle performance is on Aug. 30 at Bumbershoot in the EMP Sky Church at 12:30 p.m.
