No Age guitarist Randy Randall surfs the crowd — but never stops playing. All photos by Sam McHaney. While throngs of music faithful were roaming Capitol Hill and listening to Les Savy Fav and Vampire Weekend, I was (literally and figuratively) underground at a secret show having my eardrums blown out by No Age, Abe Vigoda and Mika Miko.It was wild, sweaty, and nearly a million degrees, but that didn’t slow anyone down.As an audience member, the show basically consisted of multiple hours of nonstop moshing. It was draining and exhilarating at the same time. And everyone there really cared — even if they showed that by falling onto guitar pedals and “creating” a two-minute drum solo.Mika Miko performs on Friday night. And that “phone” is one of the coolest mics I’ve ever seen. The cramped, hot quarters only egged on the bands — they were in their element, surrounded by the fans that truly got them and cared enough to seek them out in a place that exists only to the knowledge of a lucky few.No Age drummer/vocalist Dean Spunt sings as loud as he can, but not nearly loud enough.
