He writes about the music he’s been listening to every Friday.I’m in LA and among my visits I went to Amoeba Music on Sunset Boulevard.I bought an armload of vinyl in an establishment that that has become an anachronism – the retail music store. The place is huge and full of shoppers. Maybe Duff needs to not leap so fast into the technology thing. So many vinyl bins with records that are new and used, can there possibly be a digital virtual version of that experience? Back in the early ’80s I didn’t think the compact disk was going to catch on either! But there are tons of CD’s, DVD’s at Amoeba.I bought music on faith alone – trusting that some of my favorite artists are going to continue providing me satisfaction. So that gets me to Marianne Faithful. I came across Easy Come Easy Go – 18 Songs For Music Lovers. I love her vocal style and try to buy her music as I come across it. I recognized some of the songs on this release, “The Crane Wife” written by Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, and “In Germany Before the War” written by Randy Newman. Interesting collaborators also like Nick Cave, Sean Lennon, Jarvis Cocker, Rufus Wainwright and even Keith Richards! I’ll give this a spin when I get home and looking forward to doing so.The Flaming Lips with Stardeath and White Dwarves have done a rendition of Pink Floyd

Dark Side of the Moon. The record came with a CD so I’m listening to it as I’m typing in the hotel room. They’ve got Henry Rollins reciting the mysterious statements that are heard on the original Pink Floyd work. Peaches are on this interpretation of Dark Side. I became aware of them through the collaboration they did with Yoko Ono. I like what I’m hearing, I’ve heard the original work – so many times – that it’s fun to hear this take on what is likely the most classic of classic rock.
