KEXP Gets Live Streaming Video

KEXP 90.3 took a step into the future this morning as it debuted its brand new live video streaming capabilities with an in-studio from “We don’t give a shit” Pixies.

The new upgrade was broken down in detail in a lengthy feature in Geekwire:

“The system pieced together by KEXP includes four Panasonic GH3 cameras with special rigging, connected via eight strands of military-grade fiber to the nearby control room, incorporating low-cost A/V gear from Black Magic Design, a MacBook Pro (16GB of RAM with an all-important Thunderbolt port), and using Telestream’s Wirecast software to connect with YouTube’s live-streaming platform.”

KEXP may be the first listener powered radio station with military-grade fibers and thunderbolts running through it.

The next live stream will be Real Estate’s in studio on March 6, but until then, forge even farther into the future by checking out our tour of KEXP’s space age new headquarters, which broke ground last month.

New Music from UGLYFRANK

Repping Tacoma is UGLYFRANK, one of the members of Tac-Town’s best rap outfits, ILLFIGHTYOU. “Leftova,” the first single from UGLYFRANK’s upcoming EP, BOBBY HILL, takes the streets to Toys “R” Us in the best way possible. Speed rapping on top of a beat built out of a chopped up squeaky toy sample, “Leftova” is the most fun you’ll have all day.

Thee Samedi Bloody Up Sound Off

Heirs to Iggy Pop’s throne, Bellevue’s Thee Samedi, claimed victory at last weekend’s Sound Off Semifinal #2, securing them a spot in the final round of EMP’s all-ages battle of the bands. As you can see from the photos, the win didn’t come without blood, sweat and tears. Mostly blood though. Noah Fowler, the band’s shirtless frontman, crammed the microphone so hard into his face that his mouth and nose started bleeding, which dripped its way down his chest, hands, and eventually on to the stage, which had to be disinfected afterwards. That—is what the rock the roll is all about.

Next week’s third seminfinal will feature Calico The Band, Fauna Shade, KSneak and Otieno Terry
