In addition to the title track from Josephine, Magnolia Electric Company’s upcoming album (it comes out July 21), Secretly Canadian has now offered up another song from the record, called “Little Sad Eyes,” for your perusal. I’ve made it abundantly clear in a multitude of various blog posts about the band that I’m a big Jason Molina fan. But even if you don’t share my frighteningly rabid enthusiasm for his songwriting, you still really need to listen to this song. Gospel organ and Molina’s mournful voice? Delightfully spine-tingling. And that track, along with the rest of the album, was laid down with the assistance of illustrious recording engineer (and Shellac member) Steve Albini. Give it a listen, and if you like what you hear, snag yourself a copy of that record when it drops in a few weeks; then go see Molina when he makes a stop at the Crocodile on Saturday, August 1.
