In addition to raising funds for its basic operations, Hollow Earth Radio’s annual Magma Festival always brings in some of the Northwest’s finest underground/up-and-coming bands and artists. There’s no coherent theme when it comes to genre, but that’s what makes Magma Festival shows good: because you can expose yourself to bands that would normally reside well outside the realm of your personal taste.The month-long festival’s line-up and schedule can be found at the Hollow Earth Radio website, and includes artists like Thao (you know, of Thao with the Get Down Stay Down), Karl Blau, Bill Horist, Tom Price, Cold Lake, Jason Webley and a wagonload of other great artists. Shows take place all over the city at venues conventional and not, and if you donate $50 to Hollow Earth Radio, you can get yourself a pass that will gain you entry into all ten shows on the docket. The first show features Thao, Grr, Alaskas and Deception Pass and takes place March 6 at Vera; of all the Magma Festival shows, this is probably going to be one of the biggest crowd-pleasers.
