I suppose this speaks as much to the lack of freelance writing

I suppose this speaks as much to the lack of freelance writing opportunities (let alone book deals) out there for music critics as it does to enthusiasm for the series, but holy smokes! The 33 1/3 editors received nearly 600 proposals for their one-album-per-tome series, and you can see the full list over here. I submitted one for Sleater-Kinney’s Dig Me Out a couple of years ago, and I can’t decide from looking at this whether I should  have re-submitted my proposal. No one pitched Dig Me Out this time, but man, this selection process is going to be brutal. The list is rather all over the place. I don’t know which is weirder: Vampire Weekend’s debut or Maranthal: The Everlastin’ Living Jesus Music Concert. I do know that releasing volumes on Dinosaur Jr., Daft Punk, N.W.A., the Dream Syndicate, Liz Phair (I can’t believe that hasn’t been published yet, honestly) or Slint all make sense to me…
