Highway 99 Blues Club

They’re serious enough about the blues, but at Highway 99 Blues Club, they like a good old-fashioned party, too. Depending on the night, you’ll run into zydeco, rockabilly, folk, funk, traditional blues, or rock-edged blues at this borderline enormous brick-walled basement nightclub. A bank of pool tables and a big fireplace set the stage beyond the stage; before and after the nightly talent, you can still have a good time down here under the viaduct. While there aren’t too many strong allusions to Seattle’s recently repopularized blues history, a wall of smart black-and-white photographs captures the images of the nation’s blues-hued past, and the gorgeous 34-foot bar, made of recycled parts, is about as nice to belly up to as anything in town. 1414 Alaskan Way, 206-382-2171, www.highwayninetynine.com.
