Fuck. I feel old. The crowd at last night’s Hollywood Undead show

Fuck. I feel old. The crowd at last night’s Hollywood Undead show consisted almost entirely of angst-ridden teens smoking cigarettes and wearing too much eyeliner. I was glared at at least a dozen times. The only person who didn’t seem to mind me was a 32-year-old Bosnian dude who bought me a beer, then announced, “I’m Muslim. I can have more than one wife, you know.”

Regardless of the questionable folks in the crowd, Hollywood Undead put on a successful high-energy charged show. The Los Angeles hailing hip-hop/rock band that catapulted to fame via MySpace played a 90 minute set that pulled almost entirely from their 2008 debut album Swan Songs. Fans crowd surfed and clapped along to songs like the mocking “No. 5” about L.A.’s wealthy and frivolous youth. And many sang along to “Black Dahlia,” the anger-fueled (and totally creepy) track about impaling an ex-lover. To add to the effect, a number of fans in the sold-out venue also took to waving their lighters, making it look as though a vigil was going down at the SoDo. (Once again, totally creepy.)Hollywood Undead certainly knows how to get a crowd riled up. That being said, I loved the performance, hated the crowd. Ah, and for the record, the boys did take their masks off during the show. And yes, the are hot! Well, three out of six are anyway… that ain’t too shabby.
