Foghorn StringbandFor those of you who like old-timey bluegrass music, Portland’s Foghorn Stringband puts a great show, and they are playing Conor Byrne tonight with Jackstraw. There will probably be a cover charge. I do not know what it is, but it shouldn’t be too expensive. The show starts around 9 p.m.Then, at the Funhouse, Captured! By Robots, Warning: Danger! and Madraso are all on the same bill (hey, when you’ve got two exclamation point bands on one bill, you know it’s going to be good.) Captured! By Robots, who hail from San Francisco, are definitely a trip. In a given set, you can expect to hear dub, punk, metal and acoustic guitar music introductions; the common denominator is that their singer sounds like Beelzebub and, occasionally, Daffy Duck. It’s bizarre. Warning: Danger! is a local straight-ahead punk rock band that’s pretty damn good, as well, but the band you should make sure to see is Madraso, who you can read about in a this recent Rocket Queen column. That show will cost $10 and it starts at 9:30 p.m.Finally, The Purrs recently put out a record called Amused, Confused and More Bad News in August, and if you like lots of distortion and psychedelic, surf-y guitars with a pop sheen, you will enjoy this band. They play the Blue Moon tonight at 10 p.m. for $5.
