Eric Applewick of Tapes ‘N Tapes, Rockstar Energy Drink Stage, 9:30 p.m.To be honest, Tapes ‘N Tapes’ albums, as much as I tried to hear my friends who extol the band’s virtues at great length, never wowed me; no matter how hard I tried to look beneath the surface of Tapes ‘N Tapes’ exterior, I never saw anything more than a skilled, but not exceptionally groundbreaking, rock band. But as I sat on the ground, examining my raw, blistered feet (if you saw an insane woman running around barefoot yesterday, that was me), I noticed that this band invited not only the fist pump from its audience, but the rawk fingers AND shaggy head-banging as well, all during the same song. It was a nice way to end the evening: surrounded by dedicated fans who’d rather watch a small band from Minnesota rock the fuck out than an iconic ’90s act with a singer who may or may not be back on the junk.
