Downtempo deep house DJ/producer Mark Farina will spin for free Aug. 21 at Heaven Nightclub. His productions rely heavily on smoky jazz and smooth vocals, often resulting in mellow vibes. At his best, he reminds us that electronic music can appeal to the cerebral as well as to the tactile (all that sax is frickin’ sexy). The only downside to Farina’s style is the insistence on sameness, though he’s hardly a regurgitater. In short: it should be a good time. And, anyway, the price is right. If you can’t wait until the 21st to get your house fix, then on Friday, Aug. 14 (that’s tomorrow, for those of you playing at home), swagger on into the Electric Tea Garden for a guest set by Portland-based Demetre Baca, part of the “Fam Funk” promo. More info on this show (cover is $10 for this 21-plus soiree) and the Farina gig can be found at the Uniting Souls site, the promotional group behind both events.
