Damien Jurado’s new album, Saint Bartlett, is tentatively slated for a May 2010 release on Secretly Canadian, but in the meantime, he’s been making home recordings. Earlier this week, he posted a new song, “You for a while,” to his MySpace page and Twitter feed. It’s a downbeat tune that echoes that lonely feel of Jurado’s earliest recordings: the guitar line is sparse and haunting, with lightly layered and fuzzed out vocals. The song likely won’t end up on Saint Bartlett, however; by Jurado’s own accounts, recording for that album is complete. But he’s promised to keep recording new songs anyway, even if they’ll only end up on his MySpace page. Due to positive feedback on Twitter, Jurado announced he’ll post a new song every week until Saint Bartlett drops. (If that album’s due in May, he’ll likely have a dozen songs before then. And it’s new material for this Feb. 26 show at the Sunset Tavern). After the jump, a video of Jurado performing “Ohio” from 1999’s Rehearsals for Departure, a song that shares the atmosphere as “You for a while” and that he’s said is most requested at his live shows.Damien Jurado – ohio from Chelsea on Vimeo.
