…comes via Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite: “You bought the Elephant Man’s bones and sent a statue of yourself round the world. RIP, you amazingly talented loonball.”As for myself, I was much more relieved than sad when I heard the news. Like nearly every other person on the planet coming of age during the Reagan era, MJ was a huge part of my life and responsible one of my earliest memories of falling in love with pop music. However, that was a lifetime ago and it felt like he had died sometime back in the ’90s, but remained suspended in time via his own lunacy. Couldn’t have been a good place to be, and it’s nice to know the focus can return ultimately where it belongs: on his back catalog.
