Beach House – DevotionBaltimore’s Beach House are quite possibly one of the most attractive duo’s in the indie scene today, who happen to also make really pretty music that sweeps, lulls, and creates visions of some grainy, slow-moving, ethereal moving picture in the mind. Though not much of a departure from their 2006 self-titled debut aside from a little bit more twang, Devotion is still absolutely gorgeous – those dreamy organs, that tender guitar, and Vicoria Legrand’s lucid, reverbed voice all just sound fantastic together. Says Goldfrapp fan Mooglefan, “The songs are warmer and more personal. Various Artists – Eccentric Soul: The Outskirts Of Deep CityNo surprise that Numero Group has released yet another great compilation (they always do!) – for their seventeenth installment, they’ve compiled great, lost and forgotten soul music that Florida label Deep City released in the late 60s/early 70s. “Like a dusty curtain thrown back to reveal a pot of soul-glowing gold, a decrepit cardboard box, stained with age and filled with ancient tape reels, enshrines The Outskirts of Deep City. Read the liner notes and you’ll learn that the box was discovered in a Florida closet that time forgot, revealing treasures from one of the original Miami sound machines on this sequel to 2006’s Eccentric Soul Vol. 7, The Deep City Label.” Features cuts by Clarence Reid (who’d go onto becoming Blowfly, the Godfather of Dirty Rap), Betty Wright and so much more.
