After the insanity at M83, I headed to a smaller stage to chill out for awhile. I found myself at Exhibition Hall where I did anything but relax. Fishbone, a ska/funk/rock band from the 80s, was absolutely killing it for a mostly middle-aged crowd who were loving every minute of it. The crowd danced and head-banged as the lead singer, decked out in patterned tails and matching pants, gestured and danced artfully to every song, including a cover of “Date Rape.” The shirtless trombone player pumped his instrument in the air while he joined in on vocals. Halfway through the set several band members jumped into the audience and the crowd went wild, happily supporting the crowd-surfing performers. As the crowd got crazier, several parents dipped out with their young children to avoid the semi-mosh pit being formed by their fellow middle-aged fans. Even though they got together in the late 80s, Fishone is still full of enthusiasm and so are their fans.
