A Sight For Sore Eyes will be performing April 11 at El Corazon.A lot went into writing your favorite song, but how much do you really know about it? This week Samson Walsh, bassist of Reno, NV melodic hardcore band A Sight For Sore Eyes, delves into the perils of drug abuse and how to live a drug-free life. Song: “Destroyer”Album: Our next album which is yet to named.Release Date: It will be recorded this summer. When it was written: March 2012Where it was written: Reno, NvFavorite line in the song: “Taking your hand only led them to Hell. It was like clockwork, the ringing bell. Destroyer, fear me, say your final goodbyes. Walk in shame into the night skies. Disappear, shut out, be destroyed. You’re no longer the one filling their void.”Which part was the hardest to come up with: Nothing really about the lyrics were hard to come up with. The most difficult part of this particular song was writing the drums and guitar, and still is while we’re putting the finishing touches on it. Odd fact about song: It’s about fighting the effects of drugs and drug addiction. It’s a song to give people hope who are on drugs, that there is a reason to wake up the next day and not have it clouded with drugs. What was your inspiration for writing the song: We were watching friends and family take a one way street, and we were sick of seeing loved ones die or killing themselves. So we wrote this to give them fighting words of encouragement, for those who chose to get clean. When was your favorite time performing it live: I’d say it was the first time we played it in front of a crowd. We hyped it up so much that the crowd didn’t know what to expect, and having kids come up us after the show, with tears pouring from their eyes telling us stories of the same things we’re going through and what they can do to either get clean or help someone get clean. It really shocked us to know how much of an impact we actually have, and it made us finally realize we can take our music and help people who go through the same heart-aching things we do. What is the meaning behind the song: The meaning behind this song is that if you’re on drugs, know someone on drugs, or lost someone to drugs, that there is people willing to help. The favorite line is our favorite because it shows the affect of drug abuse and how you can say, “I don’t need drugs” when you’re at your lowest, or even highest. It’s saying that drugs are never worth it. We’ve seen nothing but bad things happen to good people because they can’t get off drugs. Overall this song’s message is that you can live a drug-free life and still have fun, you can still deal with your problems with out drugs and that when you decide to get off drugs, you can use this as your “fight song” to help guide your way to sobriety.
