A couple weeks ago I wrote about Opportunity Rocks, a contest for musicians younger than 24 competing for a slot at Bumbershoot. Both of my picks–Whitney Ballen and the Intimates, and Land of Pines**–and the rest of the competition was bested by the gangload of supporters who voted for an indie-folk sextet out of Seattle Pacific University called The Cellar Door. Congrats to these kids, who’ll now not only play Bumbershoot’s Starbucks Stage but also at tomorrow’s Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival for the Fourth of July. The Cellar Door traffics in mellow sounds and sweet harmonies, as heard on their first official releases, “Spring” and “Ground”:Spring by The Cellar DoorGround by The Cellar Door**Consolation prizes: Whitney Ballen and the Intimates headline the Crocodile on August 19; Land of Pines plays Doe Bay Fest, weekend of August 9-12.
