Cannabis collab sees Seattle women join forces

Seattle cannabis vendor names new product after local recording artist SassyBlack’s new album

Partnerships can be powerful, and when women get together on a project, there’s no limit to what can be accomplished.

Seattle retailer Hashtag Cannabis appreciates that concept and is throwing its support behind a collaboration between one of its vendor partners, Heylo Cannabis, and Seattle-based performing artist SassyBlack.

Alfa Lashay, who handles education and outreach for Heylo, says the singer/songwriter/producer has long dreamed of having a custom strain. SassyBlack got her wish recently when Heylo named a cannabis oil after her newest album, Ancient Mahogany Gold.

“Working with SassyBlack has been a complete dream! I love her sound because she embodies Black excellence in uniquely captivating ways,” Lashay says. “Ancient Mahogany Gold is such an amazing upbeat album and the strain had to embody the same vibe wholeheartedly. The oil is a natural glistening color with an ample amount of diverse cannabinoids with a smooth clean taste to it. This partnership has been a collaboration of passion and appreciation for the art of what conscious consumption truly looks like.”

Collaboration further celebrates women

Hashtag’s director of marketing and community outreach, Christine Bryant Cohen, says the company carries products from 52 different vendors in Washington, “and seven of those are operated by women,” she says. “The fact that both Heylo and Hashtag are owned by women is rare in the Washington cannabis industry.”

Hashtag, which connected with Heylo Cannabis earlier this year, partners with companies operated by women whenever possible, Bryant Cohen adds. “We have opportunities and abilities as a small business to create some of the change we want to see in the world.”

New strain available soon at Hashtag

You can find the new Heylo product available in cartridge form starting Sept. 12 at Hashtag stores in Fremont and Redmond, where a vendor day happens from 3 to 6 p.m. SassyBlack’s album is released to the public on Sept. 13, and she’ll be at the Fremont store at 4:20 p.m. for an autograph signing session. The Fremont location also hosts vendors that day from 3 to 6 p.m.

Keeping the party going in Fremont

The festivities don’t end with the album and new product launches at Hashtag stores. On Friday, Oct. 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., join Heylo as they host a SassyBlack performance at the Stampede Cocktail Club in the heart of the Fremont neighborhood.
