Discover the beauty of summer at Bloedel Reserve

Annual Garden Party one of many delights at the Bainbridge Island garden and reserve

Is there a better time to visit a garden than the height of summer? While the renowned Bloedel Reserve is breathtaking throughout the year, summer offers a truly special treat.

Not only are the gardens in bloom, to the delight of birds, bees, butterflies and other wildlife, the expanse of forested trails also offers a welcome respite from the summer heat. It truly is the best of both worlds … and it’s located right on Bainbridge Island.

“Getting into the forest is a terrific way to re-energize yourself, and slow down as you experience nature. And since we’re right on Puget Sound, we often enjoy an ocean breeze – it feels like you’re a world away,” says Becky Walliman, Director of Development & Communications at Bloedel Reserve.

While choosing one favorite spot at the 140-acre public garden and forest preserve is an impossible challenge, summer is a good time for bird watchers to visit the Buxton Bird Marsh and Pollinator Meadow, Walliman says.

And an insider’s tip on a favorite view? Strolling the main path will bring visitors to the Residence, where when the doors are thrown open to welcome in the summer breeze, frames a perfect view through the house to Puget Sound, Walliman says.

As an added treat this summer, the Reserve is hosting its annual Garden Party Aug. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. – an opportunity to raise a glass in salute of this special space, and raise a paddle at the fundraising auction in support. Martina Machackova photo

Join the Bloedel Reserve for the Garden Party

As an added treat this summer, the Reserve is hosting its annual Garden Party Aug. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. – an opportunity to raise a glass in salute of this special space, and raise a paddle at the fundraising auction in support.

Among this year’s auction items are a custom Rookwood container design experience, Bloedel’s Private Reserve Wine Tasting in the Birch Garden, a handpicked collection of wines from the Napa region’s renowned wineries, and much more.

In addition to the auction, guests will enjoy entertainment and light bites from 25 different vendors, and of course, the opportunity to experience the grounds in a new way.

“It is the party of the summer and a real celebration of the gardens,” Walliman says.

To reserve your place, visit bloedelreserve.org/gardenparty-2023 Note that summer ferries fill up quickly, and schedules vary. Be sure to arrive at the ferry dock early to guarantee that you don’t miss a moment of the fun.
