It’s finally happened! Mike Easton (of Il Corvo fame) has opened his Roman style Pizzeria Gabbiano. If his pasta is any indication of quality, we can expect great things from this Pioneer Square newcomer. Food guru and author Amy Pennington will demonstrate recipes from her book “Fresh Pantry: Eat Seasonally, Cook Smart, and Learn to Love Your Vegetables” at the Lake City branch of the Seattle Public Library on August 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The event is free with no prior registration required. Amy’s demo will focus on using fresh tomatoes from the farmers market. DRAFT Magazine is hosting its first Seattle Artisan Beer Tasting, which benefits Pints for Prostates, on August 16 at the Pike Brewing Beer Garden rooftop. The event will showcase two dozen artisan beers and food, and is broken up into two sessions: 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Each session is limited to 140 attendees, and you must purchase tickets in advance. This Saturday, the Central Area Community Festival hosts its annual bash at Garfield Community Center. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the center will have food, crafts, local business vendors, and music. New research shows that eating fish regularly – even as little as once a week – can result in “larger gray matter volumes in brain areas responsible for memory and cognition in healthy elderly people.” Sounds to me like a really good excuse to eat sushi.
