1. Ethan Stowell’s Ballard fish-and-chips spot, Chippy’s, opened last week. The 25-seat restaurant takes over the former Dutch Bike Co. space. Nosh Pit has a nice look inside the space.
2. The Seattle Center now has food trucks. Though there’s space for only two trucks at any given time at the Fifth and John space, the lineup is pretty great: Marination, Off the Rez, Hallava Falafel, and Ezell’s Express are in the rotation.
3. Cafe Campagne’s is gearing up for its annual rose wine celebration, Drink Pink, on June 6th from 4:30 to 9 p.m. The Post Alley event involves a selection of rose wines from Campagne’s sommelier Cyril Frechier along with an oyster shucking station and a small bites menu.
4. A group of Eurpoean Union states are expressing concern that “best before” date labels add to food waste – which has environmental and humanitarian implications. They want to explore whether some items should be exempt from date labeling altogether. They’d probably still tell you to toss food that has obviously gone off, though.
