Your Daily Dose of Food News, Events and Must-Read Miscellany
Today’s food news is all about beer and cider. So let’s kick things off with the opening of Outer Planet Craft Brewing on Capitol Hill. The nano brewery is located at 1812 12th Ave. and will produce a mere 24 barrels a month of brew and will focus distribution specifically in the neighborhood. The owners started brewing at home and have developed Outer Planet with a unique sci-fi bent in mind. In the future the brewery will host scfi-fi movie nights, book launches and host local groups into the genre. Greetings Earthlings!
For those of you who prefer a refined cider over beer, you’ll be happy to learn that Yakima-based Tieton Cider Works is re-launching their brand complete with a new label design. The craft cider producer grows 40 different types of apples to produce the 13 varieties of cider they offer including their flagship cider called Wild Washington. They’ve recently opened a 35,000 square foot production facility and tasting room in Yakima which is open to the public by appointment.
And last but not least, the Washington Craft Beer Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. Cask beer aficionados (and common beer drinkers alike) will line up to sample one of the over 100 different cask conditioned beers from over 40 brewers at the event. Tickets at $40 in advance and can be purchased online or at 99 Bottles, Bottleworks, Full Throttle Bottles and Malt& Vine in Redmond. Oh, and leave the kiddos at home as this is a 21 and over event.
